Prologue

OurStory

Before there was an us, there were two separate lives.

This book is where love turns into story. Guided prompts and delicate illustrations help you capture the journey of becoming a family, in your own words, at your own pace. A keepsake for couples writing today for the children who will read it tomorrow.

Also a beautiful gift for a baby shower for the parents-to-be still writing the first chapters

Front cover

Written for whoever is holding the pen.

  • Two people, filling it in together

One question at a time, you're back on the first date, in the first apartment, on the trip that went wrong. You'll each remember it differently; both versions go in, side by side.

  • Parents, writing a keepsake for their child

How you met, what you were like, the year before they arrived. Every question in Chapter Four is built so they can one day read about the beginning in your own handwriting.

  • Grown children, gifting it to their parents

The questions you never quite got around to asking, handed over in a book, and answered in their own words, at their own pace.

  • A guest, gifting it at a baby shower

The back cover carries a stork bringing new beginnings home. Give it before the baby arrives: Chapters One to Three are something the two of them can fill in now, and Chapter Four waits, blank, for everything that's coming.

Chapter One

When Our Paths Crossed

The meeting itself, in as much detail as you can still remember: where it was, what you talked about, who made the first move, who was more nervous. Then the first date: what you ate, the best part, the funniest part, and what the other one was wearing. Most couples find they disagree on at least one detail, which is half the fun of writing it down.

“If we had to describe our first meeting as a movie scene, what would the title be?”

Chapter Two

The Fun, the Flutter, and the Firsts

The early stretch when everything was still a first. The first place you went together, the first trip, the first holiday, the first big step. What you learned about each other on the road, what went hilariously wrong, and which of you turned out to be the navigator and which the snack supplier.

“What tradition did we start together during this time?”

Chapter Two

Chapter Three

From Sparks to Something Bigger

The chapter where the story turns. When you first said it, who said it first, and how it felt. Your place, your song, the first gift, the small everyday things you did to show it. And the moment, that you knew this was going to be your person.

“What moment made us realize we were truly meant to be together?”

From Sparks to Something Bigger
Chapter Three

Chapter Four

Brick by Brick, Hand in Hand

Moving in together and everything that came with it: the first home and what was wrong with it, the first big challenge and how you got through it, the first thing you bought together, the meals you cooked, the kitchen disasters, the routine that quietly made you happy. This is the chapter about the unglamorous days that turn out to be the ones you miss.

“What was the first big challenge we faced together, and how did we overcome it?”

Also a gift

For the parents-to-be in your life

A stork on the back cover, flying new beginnings home. Give it at the baby shower and it arrives already meaning something: the chapters about how the two of them met and built a life are waiting for a quiet evening, and "The Greatest Chapter Yet: You" sits open and empty, holding the space for the special someone that hasn't arrived.

Chapter Five

The Greatest Chapter Yet: You

Written to your child, and eventually for them. How you found out, who you told first and how they reacted, the strange and funny parts of waiting, the day itself and who was there. Then the early days: the first thoughts, the first home, the name and the story behind it, and the names that thankfully didn't win.

“What was our very first thought when we saw you?”

“If these memories belong to a later chapter of your life, move on for now, and come back to this section when the time is right.”

Chapter Five

Chapter Six

Dear You...

No prompts here, and no questions. Just two blank pages and the space to write the things that don't fit anywhere else: what you hope for them, what you want them to know about the two of you, what you'd say if you could only say it once. It's the shortest chapter in the book and the one most people find hardest to start, and best to have.

A few questions before you begin

Do we need to fill it in one sitting?

No. Most couples take an evening for a chapter, then leave it on the shelf until the next memory surfaces.

When will it arrive?

Orders ship within 24 hours and take 3–5 working days to reach you in the US. Buying it for a date, a birthday, a shower, an anniversary? Order a week ahead and it'll be there in time. Shipping outside the US is calculated at checkout, where you'll see the delivery estimate for your country.

What kind of pen should we use?

We recommend using a ballpoint pen as a heavy marker may show through. If you're worried about mistakes, write the first page in pencil and see how it feels.

How do the photos work?

There are twelve photo pages, each sized for a standard 4 × 6 print, so you can order photos from anywhere and they'll fit. Use photo corners or double-sided tape. Leave any of them empty if you'd rather.

Who writes in it? One of us, or both?

Both. Some pages have space for each of you to answer the same question separately, so you get two versions of the same memory side by side. Those are usually the funniest pages in the book.

We don't have children yet — is this still for us?

Yes. Chapters One through Three are built for exactly this. Chapter Three even includes a note inviting you to skip ahead and come back to the later pages whenever your story reaches them.

Do we need to fill it in one sitting?

No. Most couples take an evening for a chapter, then leave it on the shelf until the next memory surfaces. There's no order you have to follow and nothing you have to finish.

Can you send it straight to them with a note?

Yes. Add their address at checkout and leave your message in the gift note field, and we'll include it.

What if it arrives damaged?

Send a photo to admin@ourstories.store and a replacement goes out the same day. Nothing to return.
